Sunday Soiree Featured Artists: Secret Agent 23 Skidoo & Empire Strikes Brass

The 2017 Folkmoot Festival will feature, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo and Empire Strikes Brass at the Sunday Soiree Concert Series, scheduled for July 23.  The show will take place on the Folkmoot green-space (adjacent to the Friendship Center) at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone under the age of 5 is free and the admission for those older than 5 is $10.00.

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo creates positive, family-friendly, Hip Hop music. At the core of the performer’s music is the celebration of creativity, adventure, and most importantly diversity. He takes families on cerebral vacations into realms of crazy imagination backed by thumping bass-lines and heavy horn sections that bring listeners to the dance floor. The lineup includes rapping, singing, sweet harmonies, Motown- inspired dance moves, and classy purple suits. Secret Agent 23 Skidoo has shared the stage with various Hip-Hop and Funk Acts and in 2017, won a Grammy for “Best Children’s Album.”

Empire Strikes Brass has been exciting audiences throughout the world since 2013, but they got their start here in Western North Carolina.   Empire Strikes Brass stretches the boundaries of the stereotypical brass band by taking multiple genres of music from around the globe and weaving them together. The group can’t be labeled as one genre because they incorporate Old School Funk, Southern Rock, Alternative Country, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and more to create breathtaking performances.  Expect face melting guitar solos, soul-shaking synthesizer solos, lush vocal harmonies, powerful moving drums, thick nasty bass, hypnotically rhythmic keys and wall to wall horn power. Very few brass bands are able to fuse so many styles and array of technique into their work, but Empire Strikes Brass makes it happen again and again.

Folkmoot is excited to be adding these talented artists to this year’s festival lineup. These groups are not only gifted but also have a passion for celebrating diversity!
