It’s more than ghouls and ghosts and things that go bump in the night, Spookmoot is also about punkin’ chunkin’.
That’s right, chunkin’ punkin’s across a field and just off Main Street Waynesville! Jack o’lanterns flyin’ through the air and smashing smack into pie bits.
Folkmoot has partnered with Western Carolina University to give you the ultimate ‘punkin chunkin’ experience! Students from WCU’s Construction Management Department have been hard at work designing and building catapults for this inaugural Punkin’ Catapult with the Catamounts!
Students are teaming up in groups of four and challenging the good people of Haywood County and all of Western Carolina to beat their best chunkin’. Some of these students have never touched a drill but they have stepped up to the challenge of building the best pumpkin tossing catapults Waynesville has ever seen!! These babies could potentially fly 50 feet!!
The catapults are being created out of all sorts of things: wood, piping, bungie cords and even colanders!
The contest begins Friday, October 30th at the Spookmoot Kids Carnival. Bring your jack o’lanterns to ‘chunk’ for $3 a piece or buy a pumpkin $3 and watch it FLY!! Each catapult with be judged on distance and the accuracy of hitting a bullseye!
Sunday, November 1st, is when things really heat up!! On Miller St in Waynesville from 1pm-4pm the final competition will begin!! The final two catapults will be competing for ultimate ‘punkin chunkin’ glory!!!
Teams will only be able to toss these pumpkins with your help!! Bring you old jack o’lanterns and see them fly for $3!
We understand those smelly, used-up jack o’lanterns are the perfect ammo for the catapults! Folkmoot will also be selling pumpkins for $3 a piece to toss, guts and all!!
And don’t forget the huge party for adults on Saturday night, the Spookmoot Halloween Fling & Costume Party!! Read all about it here!
