Mexican cuisine, Haywood craft beer, sodas & coffee!

Mexican cuisine will be the fare for May Day @ Folkmoot, maybe washed down with some special Haywood County craft beer, sparkling soda or a very special Haywood County coffee!

A tasty array of Mexican cuisine is being prepared by Waynesville’s own Maria Presley, well known chef, cuisine impressaria and former owner of Maria’s Mexican Pueblo.

All the food and beverages – along with plenty of entertainment – gets underway around noon at the Folkmoot Friendship Center, 112 Virginia Avenue (the historic Hazelwood School.) A special sale of Folkmoot memorabilia and commercial kitchen equipment begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Folkmoot - Boojum Brewing CompanyAnd, maybe, you’ll want to wash down that delicious food with a sip or two from a special craft beer being prepared by Boojum Brewing Company, one of Waynesville’s finest group of growing beer crafters.

And what event would be complete without tasty specialty sodas made by Waynesville’s own SodaFolkmoot - Waynesville Soda Jerks Jerks? Their tasty and refreshing sodas have been a hit at nearly every public party in recent years and we wouldn’t dream of leaving them out of this party.

Celebrate May Day with Folkmoot! It’s going to be the party of the spring in Western Carolina and is expected to draw a huge crowd for friendship, celebration, entertainment, food and beverages and just a plain ol’ good time for fiddlin’ around!

The slate of performers is scheduled to kick off at noon. But earlier in the morning, Folkmoot friends will be treated to a silent auction of hand-picked treasures and gifts accumulated over the three decades of Folkmoot as North Carolina’s official folklife festival. The treasures and memorabilia have been carefully selected and itemized by the Friends of Folkmoot organization and will be unique items worthy of becoming family heirlooms.

But, yet there’s even more! We’re also offering a sale on commercial kitchen equipment, a legacy of the Friendship Center’s roots as the historic Hazelwood School.

So come on out! Enjoy the day, celebrate spring with friends & family and learn all about the new vision for a year-round Folkmoot as a center for education, entertainment, cultural exchange, economic opportunities and a beacon for peace and understanding throughout the world.
