Friendship, French Fries and Folkmoot’s Celebration of Serbia

When many people think of the country of Serbia, they may think of the brutality of war. Hopefully, they also think of a rich eastern European culture, world renowned markets or even coffee. At Folkmoot, we think of our friends from the wonderful Serbian dance ensemble, “Talija.”

Folkmoot has had the honor hosting “Tajila” several times since their first visit in 2009. Established in Belgrade in 1998, “Talija” now has more than 200 members. Ensemble participants dress in traditional clothing and feature dances that originate from all parts of Serbia, ranging from fast-paced, high-stepping numbers to slower pieces that involve intricate footwork.

This year Folkmoot is proud to host this spectacular group again and a Serbian Friendship Dinner on October 10 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Talija will prepare a traditional Serbian meal of french fries, bread, salad and Serbian barbeque. Following dinner, Talija will provide an enthusiastic performance with live music and 25 performers in the Sam Love Queen Auditorium. Tickets for this event can be purchased in advance, $15 for adults, $10 for kids, at or by phone (828) 452-2997. Tickets will also be available at the door, $18 for adult, $10 for kids.
