The Sentimiento Criollo Ballet was founded on March 17, 1983, in the town of Wheelwright, province of Santa Fe, Argentina. The Ballet has 150 members of dance school students, members of the ballet major, and adult musicians from the neighboring towns of Hughes, Labordeboy, Melincue, Elortondo, Venado Tuerto, Firmat, Rosario, Villa Canas, and Alcorta.
The program shows an imaginary dance and music tour through the different regions of Argentina. They performances incorporate traditional and elaborate costumes, choreography, and rhythms of the tango. The tango is a partner dance that originated in the 1880s along the border between Argentina and Uruguay and is the most famous of all the Argentinian dances. Traditional costumes include gaucho clothes for males and brightly colored dresses for females.
The group has performed at festivals in Argentina and national television programs. They have also performed in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Switzerland, Serbia, Portugal, Germany, and France, Bolivia, Peru, Mexico, and Spain. Sentimiento Criollo Ballet has received numerous prizes at both national and international levels, some of which were awarded by the Argentine Embassies, Rotary Club, Club of Leones, Chamber of Deputies and Senators of the Province of Santa Fe. Since 2011, they have been a member of CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals).
