Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center, one of Western Carolina’s finest resort destinations for family activities and fun, will for Folkmoot 2016 (July 21-31) offer special weekend hotel packages for Folkmoot guests.

Folkmoot 2016 Opening Weekend

Folkmoot 2016Folkmoot visitors can attend Festival 2016’s Opening Weekend, July 22-24, and attend the Grand Opening Performance of all 10 International Folk Dance Troupes at Lake Junaluska’s Stuart Auditorium (tickets included in package) on July 22.

The Festival’s opening weekend will also include free events in nearby Waynesville: the ever-popular, colorful & exciting Parade of Nations down Main Street and a new event for Folkmoot 2016, the Many Cultures Carnival at the Folkmoot Friendship Center.

Opening weekend will also include a full evening performance July 23 at nearby Haywood Community College. (Tickets for this performance are not included in the Lake Junaluska package) as well as another new event on July 24, an afternoon Cultural Conversation and Dance Performance at First United Methodist Church in Waynesville.

In short, the Opening Weekend of Folkmoot 2016 will be a full immersion in all the wonder, color, dance & music of Folkmoot!

Folkmoot 2016 Closing Weekend

And…or…Folkmoot visitors can opt for the Festival’s Closing Weekend, July 30-August 1, which will feature the traditional and emotionally touching Candlelight Closing Performance & Ceremony on July 31 in Lake Junaluska’s historic Stuart Auditorium. Tickets for the Candlelight Closing are included in the Lake Junaluska accommodations package.

Folkmoot 2016’s final weekend will also feature July 29 a first-ever parade through Pack Square in Downtown Asheville in the afternoon and a full evening performance of all dancers at Asheville’s Diana Wortham Theatre (tickets sold separately). Another new event for Folkmoot 2016, a dance party will erupt the evening of July 30 in Asheville’s famed Orange Peel Social Aid & Pleasure Club concert venue (tickets sold separately).

We’ve also moved one of Folkmoot’s best-attended and most beloved free events, International Festival Day, to the final weekend and it will take place most of the day July 30 once again on Main Street, Waynesville.
